Artist Statement

​

Cogito ergo sum. Rene Descartes’ famous words. 

Art is life, in all aspects, encompassing everything within it.

Starting from the most humble of beginnings, similarly to most people, I started with some basic stepping stones in art; scribbles that led to lines and evolved further. Life was practically meaningless, until I found art. I was always searching inside myself for something that meant more to me and I found it in the drawings that I called my own.

Art represents my personal qualities and beliefs,

as shown through a recurring theme in my works,

“The Circle of Life.”

​

“나는 생각한다, 고로 존재한다.” 철학자 데카르트의 유명한 선언입니다.

저에게 있어서 예술은 곧 삶 그 자체입니다. 그것은 모든 관점과 모든 것을 내포하고 있습니다. 저 역시 다른 많은 작가들과 마찬가지로, 가장 겸손한 마음과 자세로 예술의 가장 기본적 단계인 선긋기(scribbles)로부터 시작하여, 더 높은 작품세계로 발전시켜 나가고 있습니다. 저 나름의 예술세계를 발견하기 이전의 제 삶은 실제로 무의미했던 것 같습니다. 저는 조금이라도 더 많은 의미를 발견하고 표현하기 위해 항상 저의 내부 세계를 진지하게 탐색하곤 합니다. 그리고 나만의 조형언어를 통해 작품으로 발전시켜나갑니다. 이렇게 거듭되는 치열한 작업을 거치면서 나만의 작품세계를 이루고, 넓히기 위해 노력하는 겁니다.

저의 작품 (The Circle of Life) 연작에서 반복적으로 표현되는 주제에서도 알 수 있듯, 예술은 나의 개인적 삶의 질과 믿음을 표현해줍니다. 저에게 있어서 예술 작업은 곧 조금이라도 더 나은 사람이 되려는 노력인 것입니다.
